A Planned Focus ~ One Word for 2015

I shared this picture of the sky on Facebook, because on one November day my son asked me to stop what I was doing and go outside just to look up. He just wanted me to appreciate the beauty with him. "Mama look," he said, "no matter where you look, the sky is blue. There isn't a cloud anywhere." Sometime being completely aware in the moment is as easy as stopping, following a child, and looking with them. Sometime though, it may be the focus in the middle of paying bills or a step in a recipe that requires my complete attention, and I can't just stop what I'm doing. At those times, my "now" will be to concentrate fully on that task and get it completed so that I have more time for the truly important things like my children knowing that moments with them matter to me. As they get older I realize more and more just how quickly time passes. I want to be fully present NOW, not waste this time.

For the past year, my word was loveclick back if you want to read why I picked that focus. This year, my word is NOW. So often, things intended fall through the cracks as mundane or even pointless activities fill my time. I've reached the end of the day too often realizing that things I wanted to do had not even been started. "NOW" isn't a plan to drop tasks for the latest greatest thing, but instead to focus on what is most important, now. My kids are growing up so fast. For now, I'm blessed to have this time with them. For now, this season of my life, my time is primarily about them. I want us all to look back on the year and see both happy memories and purposeful service completed.

Now. What a strong and encouraiging word. I feel I care relate so much with your reasoning to focus on "now". It's so easy to let things slip through the cracks and come to the end of the day wondering where time has gone! blessing to you as you pursue "Now"

  2. Wow! Nice choice! I'll have to really think about this and come up with a word. I really like your reasoning too. It's amazing what kids can see that we are "too busy" to see ourselves.

My word for 2015 is embrace. I want to embrace what God has given me, including my identity in Him. 2015 will be a big year for me, and I'll only get through it by actively embracing what God has planned for me. Happy New Year!

I like now. We buried my husband's grandfather this week, and you know that when you have a loss, it helps you to realize how precious the now is and how the future is not promised. I'm hoping that you are able to live in your now this year!!
