the journal

One by one I've been moving some of my blog posts from my old blog. Instead of the original date on this one, I am updating it because it is working so well, and you may want to copy the idea.

Erica, a blog friend from last year's homeschool crew shared a great link on her Confessions of a Homeschooler blog that she linked back to another website.  The idea is to start a journal, which I did with each of my girls. We don't have a schedule or assignments with it, just sweet words. I write a page to my daughter (they each have their own books) and when she writes back I find the book back on my pillow.

Do you love this idea as much as I do? When I was much younger, and babysat, I saw some books a Mom was keeping for each of her children. She simple wrote letters to them. I started that for each of my own children when they were babies, but now only add to them about once a year. This one is different. I love the interaction component of this journal. Sometimes I write a special verse or even words from a song. Each time I read what my girls share, I am blessed.

Do you write notes to your children? Let me know if you try this. You may find it to be a blessing, too.

  2. I have kept journals since I was pregnant with the boys. I don't write as often, but they don't change as often, either. I could barely keep up in the beginning! I think our thoughts and words as mothers will be cherished more than any other keepsakes from their childhoods. This is a wonderful idea.

  3. What a neat idea. I've never kept journals, but I've toyed with the idea as a possibility for my daughter.

  5. How awesome! I do not write notes to my kids...they are boys and I don't think they would "get it" like girls would. :) But, every now and then I do leave them a little note or treat to let them know I am thinking about them, and that they are special. I do *love* this idea!
