The Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life this week...

This has been an exceptionally filled up week. The kid’s had a music recital, Joseph’s first. We have had a lot of out-of-town family in to visit. The house is actually starting to look clean enough for visitors again. We have been cooking a lot.

In our homeschool this week...

Hands on learning and observation of demonstrations during one field trip was the best thing about this week’s homeschool. A friend who was familiar with the area invited us to Destrehan Plantation’s Heritage Day. It was amazing, and I will be sharing more about all that we learned there. We followed her from the interstate for the last part of the drive, and she pointed out an eagle’s nest! After seven hours at the plantation, we also followed her to the spillway and had a lesson in floodwaters.

Places we're going & people we're seeing...

Busy, busy, busy times. My in-laws arrived Friday night, just in time for the kid’s recital. Saturday my Granny’s brother and nephew spent the day and we all visited at Granny and Powpow’s house. We have missed our library visits lately; I plan to resume that outing next week.

My favorite thing this week was...

Mother’s Day today has been wonderful. After attending church together we had an outdoor lunch at the picnic table Mitch recently built. He grilled hamburgers that Heather made- yummy! Both of our Moms were here for dessert and a special visit. I was able to see Granny and Powpow again this afternoon, too, then had a relaxing afternoon with my girls. We ended the evening with yard games. Mitch set up the net and we all (even his parents) tried ladder skore toss, badminton, wiffle ball, and volleyball.

What's working/not working for us...

Knowing that this school year is coming to its end is encouraging. It is fun to plan for next year. Getting all of our school done while we are so busy with extra things hasn’t been easy, but that isn’t new.

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have...

No matter how much I learn about ways to learn, I still have questions and enjoy hearing what works for others.

A picture to share...
Powpow accompanied the girls with his harmonica as they played Amazing Grace.

  1. How sweet that Papaw can play music with his grandchildren! That is a treasured memory, I am sure! Have a great week!
