Order is something I crave. At home, piles of clutter gone and everything in its proper place. In our plans, for things to go according to schedule. But I'm not naturally organized, so all order in my life is work. It takes communication, working together, and all of us wanting the same thing for glimpses of an orderly home to appear. It takes planning that could rival that needed for a rocket launch for our family plans to be in place. I'm still working on keeping more white space in my calendar; time st home is precious.
I wonder about Mary and Joseph, traveling to Bethlehem to pay taxes. A newborn baby in a stable isn't exactly a picture of perfect order, at least not from my everything in its place dream perspective.
But in reality, my Savior's birth fulfilled God's plans and was the living proof of prophesies fulfilled.
In our family, I try to keep our plans smoothly carried out and at the same time keep everyone happy. The busy commitments so quickly take over.
Maybe my perspective needs to change.

Isn't there room for both?
ReplyDeleteBoth dreaming of order and changing my perspective?
DeleteI totally understand your craving for order. I've soooo been there with family life. This past year I've worked hard on simplifying lots of areas of life, but it truly is an on-going process. Make a list of priorities and pick one area to concentrate on. Give yourself LOTS of grace while doing it! You may surprise yourself in the process. You can do it, Jennifer!

Thanks for the encouragement! My next focus is cleaning the living room of unnecessary piles (books, fabric, piles grow quickly) and making room for our tree.
DeleteI understand that desire for order and getting rid of unnecessary piles. When I can remove those (note the when, they never all disappear at once - sigh), it definitely creates a more calm atmosphere. And yes - we just had to work to make room for our tree, too. Aren't we blessed to have so much that the issue is what to do with it all?!? - Lori
ReplyDeleteI also crave Order, but my family doesn't really. My 14 year-old also loves order and if she doesn't use something she throws it out, her room is always spotless. If I could have a weekend home alone with her we could get our house in order. Not sure it would last though.
ReplyDeleteI have to declutter and constantly have a "donate" pile going in the garage, because I cannot handle things out of order. I feel like when we accumulate "stuff" is when things get chaotic around here. I too crave order!
