My Aunt is teaching the girls how to smock. They are both enjoying it and catching on quickly. She made Joseph an embroidered color book design on a white t-shirt. I agreed with his observation that the sewing machine sounded like a machine gun. He had fun coloring it in with fabric markers.
Smocking? I will have to look that up but your photos are great. I want to learn now :)
ReplyDeleteIt is a style of embroidery on pleated/gathered fabric, mostly done on clothing. I sent you an e-mail with more pictures.
ReplyDeleteLoves smocked dresses for little girls. I never learned how to do it. It is so great that your girls can learn. I love that my daughters learned skills and crafts that I never learned and they still use them. I would love to learn to do smocking so I could do some cute dresses for future grandchildren.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet aunt she is! The smocking looks so nice, and she even thought to include your son. That was a nice touch.

Debbie, I'm working on the babydoll ones. Grandchildren is a far off dream for me. Sometimes fabric stores have classes.
ReplyDeleteCatherine, It made his day. She is a sweet, thoughtful, and very loved aunt.
It is so amazing to have someone to teach your children like that. I pray I am that kind of aunt/grandma/friend some day. I have to develop some skills to teach though. My only "excellent" skill is cooking. I wish I knew how to sew though. Their stuff looks great, and I love how your son was included.
ReplyDeleteWow, I wish someone would teach my girls how to do that! Oh wait - I wish someone would teach *me* how to do that!
ReplyDeleteWow!!! That is just awesome!
ReplyDeleteOh I bet my daughter would love to smock! She's so crafty and creative. Great pictures!
ReplyDeleteHeather, its fun to learn cooking from someone who is an excellent cook!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tess!
Love smocked anything! Love the pictures as well -- what a skill you are teaching your daughters!

I love smocking although I have never done it myself. It is great you have someone to teach your daughter's the skill.
ReplyDeleteIt is such a joy to have eager students like Heather and Em! They are catching on quickly and I can't believe they are beginners at smocking.
ReplyDeleteJill, I am very thankful.
ReplyDeleteAunt Hettie Lynn, I'm glad you found the pictures. Heather is doing great helping Em when she has a problem. Thank you so much for giving your time and sharing your skill. Joseph is planning to wear his shirt again tomorrow. :)
Sounds like a full day! I'm loving your "pretend it's on the lesson plan" quote...
