The Homeschool Mother's Journal ~ Summer Edition

In my life this week…I have been making plans for our "back to school" week which begins Monday August 1st. I've cleaned off shelves and cleaned out the multipurpose room, but as always have a lot more organizing to do. My friend Crazy Mom is starting a challenge which I'll use as extra incentive to de-clutter; you can check out her hoarder posts for inspiration.
In our homeschool this week… This summer the kids have kept up with music practice and read a lot for fun, but school has been on hold. Em wanted to swim last week and when I told her she would have to clean the pool first, her eyes got really big and she almost looked ready to cry. She thought I said she would have to do school first! Oh my, I hope all three kiddos go into this school year excited and ready to tackle their new subjects.
I am inspired by…organized people.
Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…Thursday we went back to New Orleans to drop our friend off after a beautiful visit this week. On the way we stopped at the violin maker's shop and had viola strings fixed for Joseph. He will have his first viola lesson the week after next, and I'm not sure which of us is more excited about it.
My favorite thing this week was…my husband's words and actions. While we discussed the movie Enchanted (after watching again) we noticed in this modern fairy tale it was the princess who rescued the man. Really? I am so not a feminist. Mitch heard our discussion and commented "I'll slay any dragons for you." Two days later he had his chance, and he killed a water moccasin under the shed in our back yard while I watched through the bedroom window. The next day he spent hours helping my Grandparents. He is my hero!
What’s working/not working for us…obviously, time management is not working for me.
Things I’m working on…2nd grade, 6th grade, and 8th grade school plans; it's our even year.
I’m reading…the book of Hebrews, The Chosen, and Raising Real Men are the ones I am most focused on for now.
I’m cooking… I just took this cinnamon pull apart bread out of the oven. The house smells wonderful.
I’m grateful for…my sweet hubby- see above.
I’m praying for…family members who have suffered a tragic loss this week.
A photo, video, link, or quote to share…
I got a new rolling pin for my birthday!

  1. Hey, thanks for the mention! I can't wait to see your progress. I am going to go with your idea of one Walmart bag a day from Monday to Saturday of this week. Now to remember!!! (And since I'm not a big Walmart shopper, does this mean I have to go shopping and fill six bags? LOL)
