10.5.11

by prayer

Jesus replied, "This kind can come out only by prayer."NIV

After reading that verse this morning, it was on my mind all day. God wants us to pray to Him. Not only that, but some healing is only possible "through prayer." Jesus said so- in red in my Bible. I found that amazing.

Tonight, a friend shared an experience as we visited over the phone. The first night of the recent storms, a group of college students from Alabama was sharing their music at my friend's church. Near the end of the performance, one of the musicians shared that before they started she had a call from her parents who told her they were going to their basement. During the performance her phone vibrated, but she didn't stop her worship to check in. Then, right then when she shared, the whole church stopped what they were doing and prayed for all of the families of those students there that night and for the others in the midst of the storm.

Several years ago I shared a need at our church for a young friend who was diagnosed with cancer. Right then the leader asked everyone to pray. That little girl has been healed.  I have seen miracles of Jesus in this life. Have you ever had someone say "I'll pray for you" and then wondered if or when they would? Do you pray when God's Spirit nudges you? Do you stop what you are doing and pray right when someone shares a need with you? There is power in prayer in my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ's name. When someone asks you to pray, do it. When you think of a need, pray for the person you are thinking of. There is so much power in prayer.

  1. God is so good to use our prayers to make things happen in this world even though he doesn't need them. Such grace! Enjoyed your post, thanks for sharing.

Before my 4th son was born, one of our ministers called to see how I was doing. I thought it was a courtesy call - but it wasn't. God had put me and my baby on his heart and he prayed. My son survived a cord prolapse deliver (16 minutes from when the cord prolapsed until he was born healthy with apgars of 9 both times). He was held by the hand of God - and God knew Satan was going to try to steal my child. But I had prayed - and God knew what I was going to battle - and put it on other's hearts too - and because of that He was held by the hand of God that day and survived. Yes - some battles take much prayer. I have learned to heed that call to prayer not just for me but for others - because like you said - some situations require much prayer from many!

  4. That is a wonderful example. It is so great, too, when we know that others are praying for us.
