The Homeschool Mother's Journal- late entry

The Homeschool Mother's Journal
In my life this week...

We have been planning a lot. One set of Grandparents will be visiting soon, so we are getting things cleaned up for them. We had a relatively normal week for us. During the week we decided to leave the tv off except for educational DVDs. Joseph requested the Latin DVD one evening in addition to his lesson. Bedtimes have returned to earlier times, which is better for all of us. The pile of clean laundry has grown though, because I typically allow the children to watch tv if they fold laundry. Both being neglected was still better for everyone.

In our homeschool this week...

Joesph has been more focused on his written work. We will continue his Rod & Staff Math workbooks until he completes this level; it is working. Emily has finished another Exploring Creation science book. I need to find her some interesting books for her to continue reading about animals. Heather is almost finished with another Life of Fred math book. We will be ordering more of these for her.

Places we're going & people we're seeing...

We went to music lessons, and visited with family. I’m looking forward to our state homeschool convention next weekend.

My favorite thing this week was...

Listening to Joseph play He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands at church this morning.

What's working/not working for us...

This may seem silly, but change is working. I am still working on not comparing what we do to typical school classrooms, and I realize when I look at the big picture that we are getting a lot accomplished.
Working together at the dining room table is working for us, until time to eat together as a family and the table is covered with books and papers.

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have...

Lately summer is on my mind. With plans to stay home a lot this summer, thoughts of very light school work during the summer has been considered.

A photo to share...

  1. It sounds like a good week!

We have done contract unschooling in the summer, and it's has worked for us.

Your table looks like ours, except you manage to keep a plant on it!

    Have a great week!
