Drive Thru History® The Gospels

The following is a review of The Gospels from Drive Thru History® with the TOS Homeschool Review Crew.

Drive Thru History® - "The Gospels" The Extraordinary Life of Jesus of Nazareth is a DVD set with eighteen thirty-minute episodes and a bonus study guide.

"Who do you say is the most significant person in the history of the world?" Jesus Christ is the answer most people will say. These DVDs show evidences of the truths shared in Scripture revealing that indeed, Christ is the Son of God who died for our sins and defeated sin and death.

These DVDs are a history lesson, but they are so much more than that. All of the components that make lessons complete are included: maps, historical figures, artifacts, and references are all shared in beautiful detail with extra benefits of music and narration. There aren't photographs of Jesus and his disciples of course. Instead, drawings, stained glass, and famous works of art are shared depicting each person discussed.

"The four gospel writers became the most widely read authors in history."

Episode one is primarily set in the Roman Empire and Jerusalem.

Episode two focuses on Mary, the Mother of Jesus, specifically when she found out about Jesus.

Episode 9 shares about several famous teachings of Jesus including the beatitudes, the Sermon on the Mount, the golden rule, and the Lord's Prayer. Did you know that these phrases: "do unto others," "judge not," "go the extra mile," and "salt of the earth" all originate from the Sermon on the Mount? Dave Stotts shared that and more as he drove around the Sea of Galilee.

In the epilogue, Dave Stotts wrapped up this amazing series about Jesus the Messiah. The main reference is the Bible, but the places from the Bible were driven through today by narrator. "Who is Jesus?" is answered in this last episode starting not with more references from the Gospels but with prophecies from the Hebrew Scriptures hundreds of years before Jesus was born and evidenced by archeological discoveries including the Dead Sea Scrolls. As in the earlier episodes, each place and artifact are shared through videos as they appear today. He sat at one of the openings of the caves of kumron where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found. Our Savior who fulfilled prophecies from Scripture is shared from the driver's seat. It's hard to cover everything in 30 minutes, but in this last episode there is a concise summary of how Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world fulfills Old Testament prophecies over and over. All of them! This is a journey you won't want to miss! The Gospels-- the Good News is shared in such a beautiful way. I want to watch all of these series now!

Our entire family has been enjoying watching this DVD series together, and after viewing several we also started the using the included study guide. We found the format to be easy to follow. Each episode has a corresponding six page lesson including the episode title, a related quote, a concise summary, five discussion questions, Scripture references to read, "side road" related facts, and stunning pictures. Answers are not provided to the discussion questions leaving them open ended for each family to interpret and discuss.

You can also find them online on Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram
