The Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life this week…

This week has felt like a hurricane rush of activity winding down from the actual hurricane last week. We found grapes on sale and bought a lot because all of us enjoy frozen grapes. Wednesday night one of my sweeties got a cup full of grapes from the deep freezer outside in the shed and even brought some inside for me. Several hours later when my daughter went out there for ice cream she found an open freezer door and melted ice cream. The next day I broke a tooth while eating red hots candy. Not my best week, though there were some highlights.
In our homeschool this week…
My oldest daughter has been working fast to complete one online class. Time4Writing started as a review, but I wanted her to complete it even though the review is over. I've been very surprised to learn though not 100% convinced that comma rules have changed. I may share more about that later.

Both girls will be participating in Apologia science classes this year with VHSG. Orientation was this week and we may do one experiment this weekend while we still have fresh grapes in the fridge.

Joseph is working through his math lessons without complaint, though he does require a bit of help from me.

Our very first high school class co-op for my girls began today. A very organized mom has taken charge and scheduled a tentative plan for the whole school year. I enjoyed listening to my girls' answers to their first assignment (50 sentences or more, mostly about themselves.) I appreciate the planned out syllabus that she shared and wish everything in my life was planned out so succinctly.
My favorite thing this week was…
hearing my son's completely uncontrolled laughter
Questions/thoughts I have…
As I am getting close to the end of Beth Moore's Paul: 90 Days on His Journey of Faith Bible study, I'm pondering what Bible study to work through next. I enjoyed my first study in her Personal Reflections Series. Though it doesn't compare to meeting weekly with other ladies and discussing the Bible together, for this season of my life I need something that I can do at home. Another blogger suggested the Jesus book also in this series. Any other recommendations?
Things I'm working on...

Organization is a big goal. I got another shelving unit this week that turned into a comical experience as the kids helped me assemble it. I plan to put everything we are using for school this year on the shelf tomorrow. Just maybe that will then help me identify other resources that I can clear out.

The girls and I are having fun with our sewing month projects so far. My bedroom curtains are now complete and covering my windows. (It actually didn't take long to finish the last bit of blackwork embroidery and the curtain rod was already in place to hang the last panel.) Heather made another collar from her costumes book and has plans for the lacy collar and cuffs. Both girls turned in a few projects to the 4H exhibit at the local fair.

I’m cooking...

Red velvet cake- my 15 year old's favorite. 15 YEARS OLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How did that happen so quickly?

I'm grateful for...

Many precious memories of my Granny.

I'm praying for...

      this school year

  1. Exciting about the high school co-op - how grateful I am for those truly organized homeschool moms that put things like that together to help the rest of us!
