Pinterest Fail or Priceless Memories?

The following post is sponsored by Linqia and Betty Crocker.

More than one friend has asked me through the years why I worry/care so much what other people think. That question can't fully be answered quickly, but I'll share with you how it is changing.

Perspective makes a big difference. Images online show us perfection. My life just can't measure up to that. These 3D cookie trees are the perfect example. Betty Crocker 24 Days of Cookies Check out the picture in the tutorial. Perfect! Those trees look like they would be beautiful additions to a gingerbread house, don't they? And the idea is simple enough. Our final product wasn't quite the same. Looking back, I think my use of real butter was the culprit. Big delicious flat cookies made our trees look more like a stack of pancakes.

We followed the recipe on the bag of Betty Crocker Chocolate Chip cookie mix, simply adding butter and an egg.

My son likes to cook. He helped me precisely measure out just the right amount of dough for the largest to smallest layers of the three trees. He carefully shaped each one. We ran out before we should have then learned that his big sister ate some of the dough when she mixed it up!

Nevertheless, the whole process was fun.

My daughter summed up this idea beautifully after we finished frosting her dad's birthday cake. "It's a good thing we aren't professional cake decorators. It's not always pretty, but what we make does taste good."

You can find this and other fun recipes at Betty Crocker 24 Days of Cookies.

My memories may not be picture perfect, but they are priceless. The cookies disappeared quickly. They were delicious!
