Bucket List ~ July Blogging Challenge Day 13

Lynn has challenged us to share our bucket list OR the coolest thing we have done. I didn't ask for more details and made the assumption she means this summer, but since there aren't really rules to this it might just mean forever.

Last summer, we made a bucket list in the form of writing things we wanted to do all over a whiteboard. We checked it frequently through the summer and tried to do as many as we could around our other busy planned activities including driver's ed for the girls. This summer, my husband and I simply asked the kids what they would like to do. We all want to go to a special beach that we love, but again this summer that nasty flesh eating virus showed up again, and that wiped away all desire to visit the beach. Although it remains my favorite vacation destination, it just isn't worth the risk.

A priority of mine lately is more white space. Blank empty unmarked sections of the calendar when we simply stay home are not frequent enough. When we do spend the day at home, they are full days. Grandmommie and Pappy are next door, so we make frequent visits there. Yard work filled our weekend along with VBS prep since it starts tonight at our church. We often sleep later than we typically do on regular school days, though it gets so hot outside so early that I prefer waking early for picking berries and figs. We have been trying new recipes. I'm working with my son on a few as we are in the process of contributing to a cookbook. I'll share more about that once it is closer to completion.

We are all looking forward to camping with friends later this month.

Not quite a list, but you got a glimpse of our summer anyway. So...what is on your bucket list?
Jennifer

  1. Writing your goals down is powerful. Bucket list is a great first step in trying to achieve your goals.

    1. It can be effective in looking back often and working toward reaching them.

  2. I love that idea of writing it on a white board.

    1. Yesterday I listed chores on the white board. Not quite as fun, but very effective. We are also now using it to track how much water we are drinking.

  4. I like a lot of white space on my calendar....flesh eating bacteria at the beach sounds horrible! What kind of a beach would have that?

    1. One of our favorite places that we still want to return to is called Ship Island. It has an old fort and is so much fun to explore. Sadly, though, that virus has spread from the Gulf into water by Florida beaches, too.

    1. Vibrio vulnificus is the name. I took it seriously at first but even more so when I recognized the rehab I used to work at in the news story of one lady that had to have a leg amputated because of it. Yes, camping has its own potential hazards, too, but I'm still so excited about that trip.
