The 2015 Virtual Curriculum Fair ~ Language Arts in Our Homeschool

As a blog reviewer, our curricula choices are heavily flavored by available reviews. Often we change course midstream when a new product is introduced that fits our needs. When items I reference in this Virtual Curriculum Fair are also recently reviewed items, I'll link the reviews for your convenience. Though this makes our homeschool a bit atypical, we still plan to meet the traditional "Big 4" required for admission to Louisiana colleges.

IEW Fix-It Grammar has been one thing that both of my daughters (9th and 11th graders) have continued to use throughout this school year.
" Fix It! along with IEW's style tools help concepts stick far better than traditional methods because they teach in the context of real writing, not artificially contrived sentences."
Last year my 9th grade daughter used Bridgeway English for grammar. This year she completed book 2: writing.

For spelling, we have reverted back to what works for us. When the kids misspell a word, they add it to their own spelling list and work on it until they learn to spell it correctly.

My 5th grader has been doing copywork in both print and cursive. If you haven't heard my advice before, yes, being able to write in cursive is still important.

One of my 9th grade daughter's favorite subjects last year was French with Mango languages. She continued with that through the summer (voluntarily!) and is still learning the French culture and  language. She is even trying out new (to us) French recipes which have all been a hit from chicken cordon bleu to stuffed baguettes. I'd love to be able to tour France with her one day.

JenniferThe Virtual Curriculum Fair is an annual month long blog fair for homeschool bloggers to share what works for us.

  1. What a neat idea and such resources. Too bad I'm finished with my 3 kiddos, the last is finishing up now. Sounds great though!

    1. Finishing up the last one! My baby is 10, so we still have a few years, but it won't be that long for my oldest.

  2. I did not get on the review of Fix-It (International), but I really need to check it out. My son has been enjoying Mango Language too.

  3. We use a lot of review items as well. Such a HUGE blessing! Bridgeway worked well for us!
