First Day ~ Happy New Year Edition

Our New Year started at midnight. Friends spent the evening with us and even brought fireworks with them.

We wrapped up the fun inside, shared sparkling juice, and said our goodbyes after the fireworks ended. We broke almost all of the traditional New Year's superstitions. My Granny used to say whatever we did on New Years Day set the pace for the whole year, so not to clean as we certainly didn't want to spend the entire year doing laundry and dishes. Before we went to bed, though, we all cleaned up.

We slept in late, and my dear hubby brought me coffee in bed, prepared just the way I like it.

I still have a lot of organizing to do, but it was a blessing to wake up without having to face a mess from the night before.

This lovely gift is on my kitchen counter: sage, rosemary, and thyme. (Parsley was in the cheeseball :) ) I hope I don't kill it!

Game time with my favorite son. It was a close game. Aren't those cards pretty?

Tea time with one of my favorite daughters. ;) She had a mug of spiced tea in her favorite mug. I had an herbal tea blend. The girls and I entered our SMMT verses.
More reading. This is a great resource and an overdue review.

Em picked cumquats with me for Pappy. They are huge (and some splitting) because of so much rain recently.

My Daddy cooked a big pot of corned beef and cabbage. "Happy New Year" he and my mom echoed, and then the sweetest words "I've already prayed for you."

We didn't have black-eyed peas. We ate turkey later, after reading some old fact about eating flying birds on New Years means your wealth will fly away. We had a very happy First Day of 2015.

  1. I love the peek into our New Year. It is interesting food eaten on New Year's -- I grew up where we ate pork and sauerkraut and even though we are in England now I made just as a tradition from my growing up days.

    1. It is fun to carry on traditions from our own childhood with our children.
