"We're going to learn about different time periods in music history and what it was life for the composers growing up then. We'll study composers and see how God influenced their lives- and we'll see that some composers didn't know God at all."

To initiate this study, I read aloud the introduction then each section as my children completed the included coloring pages of the composers. We chose to use the included fill in the blank style pages following each chapter for discussion. There are also coloring pages of the composers.

Though presented as a composer study, this is an all incomposing study of music, history (including church history), and geography throughout each period covered. The first section covers music from creation through 1350, and one specific composer is not highlighted. Instead, that section is filled with music history.
Composers highlighted in the study are all "Western" and the rationalle for that is also explained.

The only negative comment that I have is that we had to search out music to represent each composer in the study. It would be beneficial for links to works recommended to be clickable within the E-book version. As I read each section to my children, I looked up appropriate videos online to enhance the study and make it even more memorable and understandable to them such as this selection from Debussy.

  1. We've been using this study all year and really enjoy it. But I've found that a number of the video links to youtube are no longer available; and often I search out my own anyway.
