managing chores

This great idea for a new chore chart at Smockity Frocks works adapted it for our family.

A big round magnet on the fridge worked for a base. I cut the center out of it, trimmed it a bit smaller to turn easily, then glued paper to the top of both pieces.

My oldest daughter was allowed to choose either a chore she wanted or didn't want for the first week, so bathroom duty did not end up as her assignment.

This is our sixth week using it and IT IS WORKING!!!! Heather survived two weeks of bathroom duty and is now back to the original two assignments. Can you tell I am happy to have a chore system that is working so well? Each week on Monday I turn the center one space which leaves all 3 children doing one new chore and one repeat from last week. Now for the fun twist. The first week, I had the one who completed the "new chore" the week before teach the one who was getting to do that for the first time. Realistically, none of these were new chores, but the first week I treated them as such and showed each child how to do their two. It was fun for me to see Joseph explaining something to Heather. I've repeated that plan each week- the kids teaching each other has been the most fun of the whole system. Well, chores being done in a timely manner has been great, too.

  6. We have been doing something similar as well with my two. They switch once per week. We sort of slacked on the chores Sat/Sun so this morning we'll play catch up in our areas before turning over to each other. ;)
