When I Grow Up...

The theme for this month's Poppin's Book Nook is "What Will I Be When I Grow Up?"

"What do you want to be when you grow up?"

When I was little, I was the child who didn't want to grow up. I enjoyed my childhood while content not to have to face all of the issues that my parents did.

At different times, my kids have shared a variety of dreams for their future: groomer, veterinarian, research scientist, mom, teacher, and more. My son was asked that question when he got his eyes checked this month for new glasses, and I knew before he responded just what he would say. Loud and clear:

"A Lego designer!"

He is indeed enthusiastic about Legos. For several years, some of his favorite books have been lego books. This month, Poppins Book Nook asks that "when I grow up" question, so it just seemed natural to feature a Lego book this month.  LEGO Play Book: Ideas to Bring Your Bricks to Life (Amazon link) has given him new ideas that he can create "with just a handful of bricks."

His latest creation is a lego mini figure ice cream shop complete with a cash register, trash can, seating for customers, a lift up counter on hinges to walk through, and of course an ice cream machine. He said this didn't come from instructions, but he was inspired by this picture in his most recent library book.
