Baked Cheese Sticks



Ingredients:
  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 cups (8 oz.) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 4 Tablespoons salted butter, cold
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder (or more to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper or cayenne pepper 

Instructions:
     Prepare in food processor. Combine all ingredients and mix. Add water one tablespoon at a time until it forms a ball. Chill dough ball in refrigerator for 20 minutes (not longer or it becomes too hard to roll.) Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Roll dough as thin as possible, 1/8" or less, covering counter and rolling pin with flour. Cut into strips and bake 13-18 minutes until golden brown. Watch them disappear!


     The creative part happens after the dough is rolled out. My daughter has cut these with cookie cutters and in small square shapes. (If you make 1" squares, use a fork to make holes in each one.) The kids made letters, too. Our family favorite, though, are the twisted strips. 


     Did you see my trivia question earlier this week? Have you figured out what the picture is? It is a wooden noodle cutter. We watched these being made at Silver Dollar City several years ago and usually use it for homemade noodles. It is like a rolling pin with ridges.
