Fundanoodle Muscle Movers: Lower Case Gross Motor Cards & Activity Kit

The following is a review for Fundanoodle Muscle Movers: Lower Case Gross Motor Cards & Activity Kit completed with the TOS Schoolhouse Review Crew.

The Muscle Movers: Lower Case Gross Motor Cards & Activity Kit includes a set of 26 laminated 4x6 inch cards that can be contained on the enclosed ring or used individually. A dry erase pen with eraser is also included. These multi-sensory cards are designed to help children recognize letters while strengthening muscles, improving flexibility, and increasing fine and gross motor coordination. Benefits shared also include visual, sensory, and cognitive components. This kit is a fun addition to my Occupational Therapy handwriting toolbox.

The gross motor component of the cards is a suggested animal movement accompanied by a friendly animal cartoon which corresponds with each letter. The action instructions on the cards are open ended, limited only by imagination. The instructions to glide like a jellyfish, creep like an inchworm, and flutter like a butterfly can encourage whole body movements around a room or even outside. Sometimes, noises are instructed instead of only movements, which adds to the enthusiasm while acting out the cards as the kids roar, cluck, and more. You may choose to play along and soar like an eagle with your child.

The opposite side of each card contains a single lower case letter. Print handwriting is introduced with distinct top and bottom lines in green and red with light gray letters wide enough for finger tracing or tracing with the dry erase marker. Letter recognition and letter formation can be addressed with gross and fine motor movements.

Designed for ages 5-6/ K-1st grade, these activity cards are open ended so could be adapted for older or younger children, too. Fundanoodle products are color coded by age/grade level. The activities with characters Max (the monkey) and Alphie (the adventurer) continue to the other kits in this series which address math as well as additional components of handwriting. This kit is available for $14.99 from Carolina Pad store. Fundanoodle's kits are designed with children's development in mind, and the color coding helps choose developmentally appropriate levels for each child.

Fundanoodle is a new line of educational readiness products from Carolina Pad designed to develop and improve the skills needed for handwriting and many other everyday activities while having fun. Fundanoodle's writing tablets and kits are based on years of practical experience in a clinical setting.

A homeschool parent will find helpful advice in both the teacher's lounge and parent's FAQ section of the Fundanoodle website. "Educator guidelines" are shared for each product including additional individual and group activity suggestions.
