A Child's Geography Volume III ~ A Review and Two Giveaways!

The following is a review and giveaway of A Child's Geography Volume III by Knowledge Quest.

This third volume of A Child's Geography series is written by Terri Johnson. A Child's Geography~Explore the Classical World takes you through a pictorial and historical journey and students are encouraged to keep a field notebook of their journey. This series is geared to 1st-6th graders and worked well as a read-aloud and for independent reading with my 4th grade son. A sample is available on their website. The book is $34.99.

The first two chapters include the ancient Minoans through the Greeks and shares mythology mixed with geography. Pictures illustrate the points of interest such as the whitewashed buildings in the modern Greek isles designed to keep the interiors cool.

Students are prompted to record "field notes" on their journey. Historical and modern facts are blended into the journey. Vocabulary and key facts are printed in bold, then students are prompted to add details about them in their notes.

Geography includes comparisons of historical empires to countries on that land today and the photographs include aerial view pictures of the modern areas. Biblical facts are incorporated into the story starting with the time of Queen Esther and King Darius.

Greece geography continues in chapter three then moves to Macedonia. Alexander the Great is introduced as well as Paul and Silas, then land forms of Macedonia are discussed. Some animals that are native to the areas are pictured and described.

Facts are taught throughout the book such as countries and continents, land forms, and an introduction of the earth's layers. Questions are presented for the students to consider such as spoken languages in different areas.

A CD-Rom is included which contains recipes, additional hands on activities, maps, timelines, a prayer guide and more. Do your children enjoy trying foods from the places that you study as much as mine do? Sample Menus from some of the countries are shared in the book, and recipes on the CD give you a variety to choose from.

In addition to the Mega-Giveaway below, I have also been authorized to give away one digital  edition of A Child's Geography!

  1. WOW! What an awesome giveaway and especially timely for me as one of my sweet grandkids just told me last week how much she loves her favorite subject at school - geography. Needless to say, if I am blessed to win this, she will be getting the very interesting geography book. :) And with plenty of grandkids, all of these would be a rich blessing. Thanks for the fun giveaway!
