This is our Time DVD Review and Giveaway

Our family has somewhat non-typical television viewing habits. We cancelled our satellite plan over a year ago and now only see the shows that we hear everyone else chatting about on Facebook when we stay at a hotel. We made that change to be able to better monitor what our kids watch, and now we watch mostly DVDs. Most of the time unless a close friend has recommended something, we screen it before our kids watch it unless it is promoted in such a way that makes it seem family friendly.

When the opportunity to review This Is Our Time  was offered, it sounded like a movie that my family would enjoy viewing together. We watched it together for our Saturday "family movie night", and there was nothing shared that I had a problem with my kids seeing.

The movie starts with friends who graduate from college and progresses through real world situations which revealed their true character. There is tragedy in the movie which is portrayed as their biggest challenge to their faith. At first they seemed like they had a really strong faith. When tragedy affected all of them, though, all but one seemed to give up on their faith. Instead of prayer to God, though, they often turn (even after college graduation) to a professor who tells them that he is always there for them. One of my daughters had a different opinion on that, though, and shared that she noticed each of the characters kept seeking God's will. Some of the characters seemed a bit unrealistic. Others changed dramatically during the short time period that the movie covered. There is enough true to life that they are still easy to relate to.

The portrayal of the friendship between the friends was of a strong bond and support through difficulty. The friends were repeatedly encouraging to each other. However the portrayal of parents was more typical of modern media with the one parent in the film portrayed as unable to support his son until they finally communicated at the movie's end.

I wondered about the actual missions at the leprosy colony and comments made by one character who was only present in those brief scenes, about eating food prepared by people with leprosy to gain their acceptance. Nothing there was mentioned about asking God for help, though other parts of the film were overtly emphasized Christianity.

The three minute video at the end shows the real life mission that the movie is based on. The story was fiction, but the mission Embrace a Village is real.

This is our Time provided an evenings entertainment, and one of you can receive a copy for your own family to watch. Watch the trailer and see giveaway details below.

Press Release
About the film:
This Is Our Time, distributed by Pure Flix, follows the post-collegiate lives of five friends connected by their strong belief in God who all long to make a meaningful difference in the world. But when tragedy strikes the close-knit group, their friendship and their faith are tested in ways they never imagined.
This is an inspirational film about what it really means, and what it really takes, to follow the call of God in your life.   “The experiences the characters in THIS IS OUR TIME face are the kinds of real-life ups and downs, successes and devastation, all of us encounter in living life,” said Lisa Arnold, the film’s writer, director and co-producer. “I wanted to tell a story that would resonate with young people just stepping out into the world to make their mark that would help them see that no matter the circumstances they face, God is always with them, loving them, guiding them.”

The movie tells the interwoven stories of Luke (T.J. Dalrymple) and AlĂ© (Erin Bethea), who marry right after school and move to India to serve as missionaries for Embrace A Village, a ministry that cares for those afflicted with leprosy and their families; aspiring financier Catherine (Kate Cobb), who joins a prestigious financial institution determined to make an impact on corporate America; Ryder (Matthew Florida), who lands an impressive job in social media and can’t wait to use the powerful medium for a greater good; and Ethan (Shawn-Caulin Young,) seemingly the odd man out, who struggles to find his God-given-purpose and feels sidelined by God.
“What they all come to learn is that it never really was their time,” Arnold said. “It always was, always is, God’s time.”

This Is Our Time releases on DVD and Blu-Ray on April 16. It will be available nationwide at Family Christian Stores and most Christian online and brick-and-mortar retail stores nationwide.
THIS IS OUR TIME has received The Dove Foundation’s Family Seal of Approval (earning the highest rating of five Doves) and is recommended for all ages. It also features appearances by Hollywood veterans Eric Roberts, Erik Estrada and Dawn Wells.

  6. Jennifer,
Thanks for your review of THIS IS OUR TIME. It was a great gift from God to write and direct. I visited 7 loeprosy villages while in India. We were served tea in almost everyone of them and while there was the risk of contracting Leprosy, it was much more important to us to show love and acceptance to these individuals. Leprosy is easily cured by antibiotics if the are available. It was a life changing experience to say the least!

We have also created a four week study guide as a FREE resource for churches, youth and college organizations. Pure Flix will be posting it later this week. I hope it helps everyone take a closer look at what God is calling them to be!

    Blessings,

    Lisa Arnold
