Cooking and Baking {Getting Ready for theHolidays Blog Hop}

     Baking is one of my favorite things. Trying new recipes, cooking with my girls, walking into the house and smelling something freshly baked are all wonderful to me. So the theme of today's blog hop is perfect for me- cooking and baking for the holidays.

     One year two friends and I got together and mixed up jar gifts for sharing at Christmas. You can layer almost anything in a jar, but my all time favorite is my homemade brownie recipe with the addition of chocolate chips. All they have to add is an egg and butter or coconut oil and they can create brownies that are so much better than a box mix. Print a pretty label and add ribbon, and your present is personalized. Last year my cousin shared a jar mix of Cowboy Cookies and my kids loved the M&Ms she included in the mix.

     Click here for a our most recent delicious recipe- white chocolate chip chocolate cookies. My girls and my mom joined me for a LeadHer conference this weekend (I'll share more later about what a blessing it was) and enjoyed these cookies I made the night before we left.

     Some of my favorite holiday recipes are Hot Spiced Tea Mix, Spiced Cider, Pumpkin Cream Cheese Bread, Apple Dumplings, Chocolate Toffee Bars, Crockpot Candy, and Divinity.

     Be sure to join us tomorrow for gift giving ideas.

  2. I haven't ever made mixes in a jar, but I have received them before and really enjoyed them. I'm thinking of trying some this year~it's such a fun and frugal gift!

    1. The kids enjoy helping with them. It is kind of like edible sand art. Dry ingredients from almost any baked recipe works, but the prettiest ones have variety like brown sugar between white layers and oatmeal, nuts or chocolate chips. You can change it up with the colored/flavored chips that are more available around the holidays or the kids favorite- M&Ms.

  4. I am definitely going to try that brownie recipe. I love making brownies but haven't ever made it with coconut before and I am a huge chocolate lover. I will be back reading more of the linked recipes later. They all look YUMMY! Thank you for sharing.
    Have you tried the PB Cookie Sandwich recipe I posted during the blog hop. If so, let me know what you thought. Mine tasted different than my mother-n-laws but it could be due to different brands. Hmmm ... curious if anyone else liked them as much as I do.
    God bless,
