The Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life this week...

This has been VBS week at our church, so we have had full, fun filled evenings.  After a long dry stretch (and a dried up garden except for a few well tended plants) it has been storming a lot this week.

In our homeschool this week...

Our "summer school" has a much different pace than our typical school days. The girls have been working on lessons from Homeschool Spanish Academy (a review will be shared soon) which has also provided our family's introduction to Skype. The kids have also been completing their final editing of their NaNoWriMo novels for draft submissions.

Places we're going and people we're seeing...

Sometimes little things make me very happy. A trip to the dentist  and NO CAVITIES for any of the kids made us all smile even bigger.

We had our first introduction to two 4H events this summer. Club Congress with my oldest daughter was a few weeks ago, and Junior Achievement Day with my middle sweetie was Wednesday.  Next year my son will be old enough for Clover Bud activities, too. Emily won two blue ribbons for her presentation on cat care and her violin performance at Share the Fun!

My favorite thing this week was...

In the Bible study break out session during each night of VBS, I enjoyed watching the kids enthusiasm. Even the rowdiest boy happily surprised me with clear answers related to the study. That reminded me of Mr. Pudewa's lecture about boys and how they learn. Though he jumped around and was loud and appeared to be totally inattentive at times, he heard every word.

What's working/not working for us...

Bible Bee is fun. We are completing our second week of the Sword Study and enjoying tips about how to memorize Scripture. The very first "Spotlight on the Crew" article shared on the Schoolhouse Crew website is about just that topic!

Things I'm working on...

Never ending housekeeping and organizing fill my days. The fun part that goes along with that is packing for our mission trip that the whole family will be going on- together! We leave in just one week.

A photo, link, or quote to share...

I'm remembering my dad a lot between Memorial day, Father's day, and the upcoming one year anniversary of his passing. I found this old picture that I shared last year: http://glimpseofourlife.blogspot.com/2011/07/flashback.html

  3. Sharla, We are joining a group called Nailbenders to help work on a church in Virginia. We also get to take the kids to Washington D.C. for one afternoon. Along with packing clothes, we are packing towels, sleeping bags, etc. so it is a huge job.
