Write With WORLD

The makers of World Magazine gave members of the TOS Homeschool Crew a chance to try their pre-released version of their new writing program Write with WORLD.  The final version of this course will be released this summer and will be available for purchase from their website for $95 per year which includes a student book, teacher book, and annual web access. Or $165 if purchasing both year one and two together (four books, two years of web access.)

Though obviously a writing program, grammar is also woven into each lesson. Shared by the publisher: "We've chosen to tackle 19 of the top 20 grammar errors made by U.S. college students. Additionally, we included a few other common problems that grew naturally out of the lessons or that we thought were important: parallelism, when to use I/me, apostrophes and contractions, and use of  quotation marks. In every unit, the first three lessons cover one error each, and the fourth lesson is a review of the grammar issues touched on in that unit."

For this review, we received the teacher's guide and student text for year one. The teacher's guide includes the entire student text as well as additional exercises and explanations. The first few lessons include full color pictures that the students are prompted to analyze and think about in different ways such as through the eyes of a photojournalist. Lessons become more personalized as you follow directions to have students use the same questions with their own pictures. Students use writer's journals (a notebook) to record their writings throughout this course.

Write with WORLD exposes students to:
  • reading and critical thinking that develop discernment
  • contemporary subjects and professional guidance to pique interest
  • flexible exercises to build confidence and skill for using today's new media
  • a thoughtful and meaningful Christian worldview
Additional resources including Dr. Ron Pitcock's one-hour workshop on evaluating writing "Rethinking the Red Pen" will also be available at their website, so be sure to check back.

Disclaimer: As part of the TOS Homeschool Review Crew, we received the aforementioned product for this review. Opinions shared are my own with family input. Be sure to check out other reviews at the TOS Homeschool Crew Blog.
