The Homeschool Mother's Journal

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life this week...

Repeat what I said last week, life is busy. Early in our marriage our pastor described busy as “being under satan’s yoke” so I cringe when I use that word to describe us, but it serves as a reminder to make sure our busy times are purposeful.

In our homeschool this week...

Library fines are growing and we still haven’t read the entire huge stack we checked out a few weeks ago. This week I was very encouraged when visiting with a family with a daughter who was successfully homeschooled all the way through high school.

Places we're going & people we're seeing...

We have enjoyed visitors and field trips. The blazing science demonstration was interesting for all of us.

My favorite thing this week was...

Our family enjoyed attending a beautiful wedding. The father of the bride is a family friend and it was bittersweet seeing the emotions on his face. We smiled when he encouraged the girls to play their violins for weddings one day, but then then said he didn't even get to hear the music. The bride had blue and white hydrangeas as her flowers, and it was beautiful.

What's working/not working for us...

Art is working. We have been doing more painting, crafts, and trying new things. As for what isn't working, time management. I'm still trying to get a long term schedule mapped out for us.

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have...

I’m still making plans for the next school year. Now is the time to find sales on any new curriculum we will purchase, so I feel like I should decide soon.

A photo to share...
This is where the wedding was located:

Looks like a beautiful place for a wedding! We attended a wedding this weekend, as well. I always get teary-eyed watching the father/daughter dance, especially now thinking about my husband and baby girl doing that dance one day! I'm so inspired by your dedication to homeschooling your children--so wonderful!

  2. We always have library fines. I figure I'm really renting the books, and that's still cheaper than buying all of them! Thanks for sharing.

  3. ahhh...the looming library fines-I know that well. My library lets me call to re-new or I can do it online. Are you able to do that? That science demonstration sounds great & so does the wedding. Holly

  4. It looks like a pretty good week and a beautiful wedding! Have you checked to see if your library will allow you to check out books for a longer period of time because you are a teacher? My library lets me check out books for 6 weeks instead of 3 and that is nice for certain things that we use for awhile. We can also renew them and request holds online. It's a big help!

  5. I am SO glad we're not the only homeschoolers with Library fines!! HA!! :) I had to renew some today, actually, so that the bill didn't get any bigger!! :)
