The Homeschool Chick

What a fun new meme!

In my life this week...

This week we seem to be getting back into a workable routine. There are still a few extras that keep us from my ideal schedule, but it is working. We have been enjoying breakfast together as a family each morning, which is a nice change.

In our homeschool this week...

We are studying our Founding Fathers. This has been enjoyable as a read-aloud which is also a new habit I want to incorporate more into our lessons.  Joseph is reading more challenging books out loud to me. It has warmed up enough for Emmy to do her favorite thing- take her books outside.

Places we're going & people we're seeing...

We have been setting aside specific time to spend with my Granny and Powpow. The kids made delicious bubble bread with Granny one day. We visited again today; that time is precious.

My favorite thing this week was...

Last minute plans to join our homeschool group bowling. All 5 of us were able to go Friday.

What's working/not working for us...

Science is working. You would think my kids think I'm the coolest Mom in the world when we do experiments together. Heather is progressing well with her online class.

Geography isn't working because I do not have a solid plan. One sweetie said "Mommie I'm going to work on my geometry" before heading to the smart globe (a new  present) for independent play/study. See Joseph's idea of the Ukraine for another funny example of this lack in my education plan. I did teach him since then that the Ukraine is a country. Did I mention I offered to organize an informal geography bowl for our homeschool group?

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have...

I realized last week that we are not going to be completing a lot of our books/sets by the  official end of the school year. We may instead be continuing a lot until December and adding more new ones then. Of course, with the reviews we are constantly adding in new things. I think that is partially why we have fallen behind with some of the original plans.

A photo to share...
Granny's bubble bread, yum!

  1. Visiting from the Hip Homeschool Hop! I love this idea of reflecting on how the week is going - the good and the bad - and sharing it with others. It's nice to see that homeschool isn't about perfection! :)

  3. I thought it was a great meme as well - I like to see how other people's homeschooling is going...and like Ashley said, seeing the good & the bad! It makes me feel a lot better if we're not having a great week.

  6. If homeschool had to equal perfection, I would have given up long ago.

The bubble bread is sort of like monkey bread, if you are familiar with that. Balls of bread are rolled in a brown sugar mixture then layered with raisins and chopped nuts in a bundt pan. Granny's version is almost sugar free with a brown sugar substitute.

I love that you set aside extra time to be with Granny & PowPow. Such an important thing to do!

Her bubble bread looks amazing. Are you going to post the recipe sometime soon?

Thanks for joining me on the journey this week.

    Blessings to you,
    Sue :)
