honored

My uncle was a helicopter pilot for Delta Force during the Vietnam war. He was shot down 8 times, and survived! Today our family celebrated with him after watching him receive The Distinguished Merit Award from the Governor's Office of Disability Affairs. I enjoyed learning more about my uncle today and visiting with family members we had not seen in several years.

There was a much larger program than I realized before we arrived. As an Occupational Therapist, I work out of state and was not aware of our state's Governor's Advisory Council on Disability Affairs. Our Secretary of State Tom Schedler spoke about budget cuts and our responsibility to help each other. The 2010 Gold Awards also honored volunteers, professionals, families, employers, and others who make a difference in the lives of Louisiana residents with disabilities. I was impressed with the impact individuals, many who are volunteers, have made.
